Wander Gals’s 2023 Active Holiday Bucket List

Wander Gals’s 2023 Active Holiday Bucket List

The re-opening of international borders almost fully in April 2022 set off a travel revenge frenzy among many people around the world including holiday-deprived Singaporeans. We were very thankful by many repeat clients as well as new clients who entrusted us with their holiday planning again.

Amid the busy yet fulfilling season, we both also did a little bit of travelling to Europe and Asia – thank you to the invitation by many tourism organisations who are eager to show us what’s they have done and prepared for the return of visitors to enjoy the safe travel in the destinations.

As we reflect 2022, we too look forward to an exciting 2023. Here are Sheryl’s and Mabel’s bucket list for the coming year.

Mabel's Pick

Jeju Olle Trails & Hallasan, 6 days from 19 – 24 March 2023

Jeju island will always be on Mabel’s list of favourite destinations. The lovely ocean scenery coupled with plenty of natural landscapes and unique cafes makes the island of Jeju a paradise for relaxation. The itinerary we have designed will take you walking along beautiful coastal routes, hiking lesser-visited forested parks, sampling 2 Olle Network trails and ascending the summit of the highest mountain in Korea – Mount Halla, one of the best
way to enjoy the island.

Charming Tuscany Hike, 8 days from 15 – 22 April 2023

A h
ike in Tuscany from inland Florence to the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is difficult not to immerse in the Italian feel and the Mediterranean lifestyle. Multi-day walking on well-maintained hiking paths and trails with daily routes mostly lead along vineyards, forests and through soft rolling landscape. There is plenty of time to enjoy the Tuscan countryside, one-of-a-kind in the region in peace and quiet. No wonder Sheryl affectionately refers this trip as a get-drunk hiking vacation.

Mabel’s Pick

Scenic Salzkammergut Hike in Austria, 8 days from 6 – 13 May 2023

Hiking into picturesque villages with idyllic lakes engulfed by breathtaking mountains? That’s totally Mabe’s cup of tea! The Salzkammergut region in Austria looks as though it has been plucked straight from the pages of a picture book. On this supported hiking tour, learn about Austrian history and culture in its most beautiful form. Visit the small town of Hallstatt which was awarded UNESCO World Heritage status. This small European country is seriously underrated and it’s time to shower them with more attention.

Mabel's Pick

Hiking in Nagano - The Roof of Japan, 5 days from 8 – 12 May 2023

It’s no wonder why Nagano is nicknamed the “Roof of Japan”. The city has the highest concentration of mountain ranges in the country and is known for its lovely hiking landscapes.

Besides being a treasure trove of nature, history, and culture, Nagano is also bursting with natural hot springs, making it the king of Onsens. Mabel is really looking forward to hiking along the pilgrimage route of Togakushi Kodo Trail as well as the climb up Mount Iizuna for a bird eyes view of the lovely prefecture.

Sheryl’s Pick

Exploring The Danube River Cruise & Cycle, 8 days from 21 – 28 May 2023

The Danube Cycle Path is one of the oldest with excellent infrastructure for all kinds of cycling. It is often touted as the “must-do” cycling route in Europe especially for beginner cyclists who are attempting their first overseas ride in Europe. The terrain is generally flat and follows along the Danube River. Most importantly, you will be cruising down the river which is also your floating accommodation – hey there is no need to unpack and pack everyday!

Sheryl’s Pick

Trek Kyrgyzstan At Leisure, 10 days from 22 – 31 July 2023

Kyrgyzstan is often referred to as the “Switzerland of Central Asia” and trekking is the best way to appreciate her natural beauty. See the pristine nature in rarely touched places, admire stunning lakes, meet locals who still lead a nomadic lifestyle. Besides high altitude hiking, there will be kayaking, biking and horse riding experiences. This trip is a sell-out trip in 2020 when we first launched. However, it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Therefore we decided to bring it back again.

Mabel's Pick

Idyllic Bavaria Hike, 7 days from 23 – 29 September 2023

A leisure hiking holiday with breaks in between for relaxation amongst mountainous setting? That’s what this itinerary provides as you walk leisurely on marvellous panorama paths through picturesque mountain scenery and enjoy breaks along the way in pretty little mountain chalets. Lakes Tegernsee and Schliersee beckons for a swim in their refreshing mountain waters. Hiking in the southernmost state of Germany is like something out of a picture book. It boasts magnificent mountain peaks, deep blue sparkling lakes, moss-green forests and colourful alpine meadows with grazing cows on it.

Sheryl’s Pick

Tohoku Autumn Colours Hike, 6 days from 16 – 21 October 2023

We are spoilt for choice for autumn colours in 2023. The Tohoku region located in the north-eastern part of Japan is known for its volcanoes, mountainous terrains, countryside, hot springs, lakes, high quality rice, autumn colours and winter skiing. Immerse in her stunning beauty as we hike the volcanic mountains with 2 out of 3 being listed as Japan’s 100 famous mountains, plus enjoying the onsen stays included in the itinerary.

Sheryl’s Pick

Andaman Sea Leisure Ride (Krabi to Phuket), 5 days from 14 - 18 November 2023

The Andaman Sea which borders the coastlines of Myanmar and Thailand along the Gulf of Martaban and the Malay Peninsula, is home to rich coral reefs, marine life and many spectacular limestone karsts. This trip will cycle the 3 southern provinces of Thailand – from Krabi to Phang Nga and Phuket leisurely in small group. Take in the lovely sights and local Thai culture along the way. Phang Nga and Krabi provinces are two of Thailand's provinces that are beautifully famous for its limestone karsts that rise dramatically from the land and the sea.

Mabel's Pick

Explore Peaceful Cambodia by Bike, 7 days from 3 - 9 December 2023

How nice it is to explore the temple ruins of Angkor Wat on a bicycle. As we go on a nice leisure ride from Phonm Penh to Siem Reap, we will also be exploring Kampong Thom Province which houses a significant number of Angkorian sites in the area, including Prasat Sambor Prei Kuk and Prasat Andet temples. Mabel can totally imagine herself being Lara Croft Tomb Raider for a week! Another highlight will have to be the exclusive Cambodian luncheon in a private residence.
